Woman Fatally Shot Inside Pittsburgh Apartment Building in Hill District

A woman was killed early Wednesday morning after being shot inside an apartment building in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, according to Pittsburgh police.

Officers responded to a shooting call along Chauncey Drive just before 3 a.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson Cara Cruz confirmed that the woman had been shot in the head. Her identity has not yet been released by authorities.

Police said a male suspect fled the scene on foot following the shooting. No physical description of the suspect has been made public at this time, and the investigation remains active.

Detectives recovered multiple shell casings from the scene. The Pittsburgh Police Violent Crime Unit has taken over the investigation and is working to determine what led to the shooting.

Authorities have not said whether Wednesday’s shooting is connected to another act of gun violence that occurred less than 24 hours earlier in the city. On Tuesday, a shooting inside a business on Frankstown Avenue in the Homewood neighborhood left one man dead and another critically injured. Police have not indicated any link between the two incidents, and each is being investigated separately.

This is a developing story. Anyone with information about Wednesday’s shooting in the Hill District is asked to contact Pittsburgh police.
