A first responder in Parker County is mourning the loss of his wife and two young sons after a fire destroyed their mobile home Monday night.
Parker County ESD 6 Fire Chief Nicholas Wells said crews were called to a residence on Lake Country Drive just before 10 p.m.
The victims have been identified as Alexis Renfroe and her two sons, 4-year-old Alekzander Joshua Renfroe and 10-year-old Cody Lock Jr. Her husband, Herstle Renfroe, was on duty responding to emergency calls elsewhere when the fire broke out at his own home.
Neighbor Richard Simpson said he saw flames shoot above the treetops within moments of noticing the smoke, and that the home was quickly engulfed before anyone could reach it.
Sacred Cross EMS in Krum, where Renfroe also serves, shared news of the loss on Facebook, saying he was on shift helping others when his family’s house caught fire. The post said his wife and two children did not survive.
Renfroe has served his community for more than ten years, according to Palo Pinto ESD 1, and first responder organizations across the region are now organizing support for him.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Wells said.
Weatherford ISD confirmed that one of the boys, a fifth-grader at Stephen F. Austin Elementary School, was among those killed. The district asked students and staff to wear green Wednesday in his honor, noting it was his favorite color, and said its thoughts are with the family and the broader school community.
