North Texas heat index could hit 108° Tuesday — here’s what to watch for

DALLAS, Texas — The heat is not letting up, and Tuesday could be the most dangerous day of the week so far.

North Texas is under a heat advisory from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Heat index values — what the air actually feels like on your skin — could reach 108°. For anyone working outside, running errands, or spending even a short time in the sun, that level of heat carries real risk.

Highs will hover near 100° through much of the week. South to southwest winds will also strengthen Tuesday, with gusts potentially reaching 25 to 35 mph.

25 Days Without Rain — And Counting

DFW has not seen measurable rainfall since July 15. That is 25 consecutive dry days, and the forecast offers little relief.

Rain chances drop to nearly zero after Monday. As humidity falls and winds pick up later in the week, wildfire conditions are expected to worsen — particularly across western North Texas. Thursday is shaping up to be the most critical day, with afternoon humidity potentially falling to just 18 to 25% in some areas.

Know the Warning Signs

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke can come on fast. Heat exhaustion often brings heavy sweating, dizziness, muscle cramps, and cold or clammy skin. If left untreated, it can progress to heat stroke — a medical emergency that requires calling 911 immediately.

Heat stroke can cause body temperature to exceed 104°, along with confusion, seizures, or loss of consciousness. Do not wait to see if symptoms improve on their own.

Stay Safe This Week

Drink water before you feel thirsty, wear lightweight and loose clothing, and limit time outdoors during peak afternoon hours. If you have elderly neighbors or family members, check in on them — they are among the most vulnerable during extreme heat events.

This week is not the week to push through it. Take the heat seriously and look out for the people around you.
