DALLAS, Texas — Texas just lost three more restaurants that meant something to the people who ate there.
Not trendy spots chasing a moment. Places that fed families for decades, hosted birthday dinners, became the backdrop for ordinary Tuesday nights that somehow became memories.
Sevy’s Grill, Dallas — 29 years
Sevy’s Grill near Preston Center was the kind of place regulars called their own.
For nearly three decades, Jim and Amy Severson ran a room where business lunches blended into family celebrations and the staff knew customers by name. The food was polished American — steaks, seafood, solid across the board — but consistency was the real draw.
It closed June 27, 2026. A fourth lease could not be agreed upon. The owners have not ruled out returning, but for now, the doors are shut.
City Acre Brewing, Houston — 10 years
City Acre was something rare: a brewery that families actually wanted to spend an afternoon in.
Tree shade, lawn games, picnic tables, a vegetable garden, and a kitchen that made food worth staying for. It opened in 2016, nearly closed in 2022, got rescued by a new owner, and then quietly went permanently closed in July.
Houston still has breweries. None quite like this one.
Mazzio’s Italian Eatery, Kilgore — 41 years
Forty-one years in East Texas is not a restaurant. That is an institution.
Kilgore’s Mazzio’s fed generations — kids who grew up on the buffet brought their own kids back. When the closure was announced, demand for one last meal was so strong the kitchen ran out of pizza dough before the final day arrived.
That says everything.
The real loss
Three different restaurants. Three different reasons for closing. One thing in common — they were places people returned to, year after year, because they felt like home.
That kind of place does not come back easily.
