HOUSTON, Texas — The week is starting wet, and the heat is not going anywhere either.
Southeast Texas is pulling in deeper tropical moisture, and that combination is setting up a rough stretch for Houston-area residents heading into the early part of the week.
Sunday Is Not a Washout — But Stay Alert
Sunday brings around a 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms, with most activity expected to fire up during the afternoon and push into the early evening hours.
Not every neighborhood will see rain. But the storms that do develop could drop a quick, heavy downpour in a short amount of time.
If you have outdoor plans, keep one eye on the sky.
Monday Is the Day to Watch
Monday is shaping up to be the most active weather day of the week.
Rain chances jump to around 50% as more tropical moisture floods into the region. Scattered thunderstorms will be possible across the Houston area, and some spots could pick up locally heavy rainfall.
Widespread flooding is not currently expected — but a few areas could still see standing water if storms stall or cluster.
The Heat Is Not Letting Up
Do not let the clouds fool you. Temperatures will still climb into the mid-90s, right around Houston’s average high of 96 degrees.
Heat index values — what it actually feels like outside — will reach 100 to 108 degrees during breaks between storms.
Stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, and remember to look before you lock any vehicle.
Drier Air Returns Late Week
Storm coverage begins pulling back Tuesday, with rain chances dropping to 30%. By Wednesday, most of the area drops to just a 20% chance.
Thursday looks hot and mostly dry — more of a typical Houston summer day with only a 10% rain chance and a high near 98.
