Lanett, Alabama — A homicide investigation in eastern Alabama took an unexpected turn after authorities concluded that a Georgia man allegedly killed his girlfriend before suffering a fatal heart attack while attempting to dispose of her body in a wooded area.
Investigators say the unusual sequence of events unfolded near Lanett, where deputies discovered both individuals dead after responding to reports of an abandoned vehicle.
The investigation remains closed following autopsy findings that determined the woman died from strangulation while the man died from natural causes.
Deputies Discover Two Bodies Near Abandoned Vehicle
According to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a wooded area along County Road 86 on June 10 after receiving reports of an abandoned pickup truck.
When officers arrived, they found the vehicle still running with the driver’s door open. Authorities also observed drag marks leading from the truck into nearby woods.
Following those tracks, deputies discovered the bodies of a 47-year-old Alabama woman, Jessica Folds, and 44-year-old Georgia man Daniel Robbins.
Investigators immediately launched a joint investigation to determine how both individuals died.
Autopsy Determines Woman Was Strangled
The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences later conducted autopsies on both individuals. According to investigators, Folds died from strangulation.
Officials believe Robbins was responsible for her death before attempting to move her body farther into the wooded area.
District Attorney Mike Segrest said investigators determined Robbins likely suffered a fatal heart attack during that effort.
“He died of a heart attack while doing it,” Segrest said. “Their bodies were right there together.”
Authorities said Robbins and Folds had been involved in a relationship before the incident.
Investigators Believe Incident Stemmed From Domestic Violence
Although investigators have not determined exactly where the fatal strangulation occurred, officials believe the case was the result of a domestic violence incident.
Authorities said there was no evidence indicating the precise location where Folds was killed before her body was transported.
Investigators reported that Folds was discovered with her hands positioned above her head, while Robbins was found nearby in a fetal position.
According to investigators, Robbins’ former wife informed authorities that he had a pre-existing heart condition, which officials believe contributed to his death.
No additional suspects are being sought in connection with the investigation.
Community Mourns Loss of Mother of Three
Friends and loved ones are remembering Jessica Folds for the kindness and compassion she showed throughout her life.
According to her obituary, she was the mother of three adult sons and was known for her caring personality.
“Jessica touched the lives of many with her heart of gold, deep love for everyone, and a smile that brightened the world.”

Robbins is survived by a daughter.
Authorities have not publicly identified a motive for the alleged killing.
Investigation Concludes With No Criminal Trial
Because investigators determined the suspected perpetrator also died at the scene, no criminal prosecution will move forward.
Officials say the autopsy findings and evidence collected during the investigation support their conclusion regarding the sequence of events.
While the case has reached its investigative conclusion, family members continue mourning the loss of Jessica Folds as they remember her life and the impact she had on those who knew her.
