NEWARK, New Jersey — If you have plans for Monday evening, you may want to keep an umbrella nearby.
A cold front is moving across New Jersey tonight, bringing a slight chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms to the region. The storms are not expected to turn severe, but brief bursts of heavy rain are possible in some spots.
Tuesday looks like a reward for getting through it
Once the front clears out, Tuesday is shaping up to be a genuinely nice summer day.
Mostly sunny skies are expected through the afternoon, with temperatures rising into the mid-80s. Humidity levels will drop noticeably, making it feel comfortable rather than sticky.
Some patchy fog may develop early Tuesday morning. But once that burns off, it is clear skies the rest of the day.
Wednesday stays dry — but not for long
Wednesday will also be mainly sunny and dry, with highs pushing into the upper 80s.
The catch is that humidity will gradually creep back up through the day.
By late Wednesday into Thursday, another cold front arrives — and with it, another round of showers and thunderstorms. Rain chances on Thursday sit between 50 and 60 percent for most of the region.
The weekend is still up in the air
Friday and the weekend could stay unsettled if a front stalls over or just south of the region.
Temperatures late in the week are expected to stay warm, with daytime highs in the low to mid-80s. Overnight lows should be comfortable, dropping into the upper 50s to mid-60s.
For now, enjoy Tuesday while it lasts — it looks like the clear standout of the week.
