Fort Worth, Texas — A longtime favorite in Fort Worth’s historic Stockyards is preparing to serve its final customers this Independence Day weekend, marking the end of an era for a restaurant that has been part of the Northside community for decades.
La Playa Maya announced that its North Main Street location will permanently close following the holiday weekend, sharing the news with customers in a heartfelt message on social media.
While the closure will affect the Stockyards restaurant, the family behind the business says its remaining locations will continue operating.
Family Shares Emotional Farewell
In a Facebook post announcing the decision, the Ayala family reflected on the many memories created with customers over the years.
The family thanked generations of diners who celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and everyday meals at the restaurant.
“It has been our honor to share special moments and milestones with your families.”
The statement also acknowledged the restaurant’s long history serving Fort Worth’s Northside community.
“We have been honored to serve the Northside community since 1988, first at our original location off of Central, and then at this historic site on North Main. We want to thank the many families and friends who have entrusted us to host your celebrations and meals.”
The announcement quickly drew reactions from longtime customers expressing appreciation for the restaurant and sharing memories of family gatherings over the years.
Stockyards Location Closing, Other Restaurants Remain Open
Although the Stockyards location is closing permanently, the Ayala family emphasized that other La Playa Maya restaurants are not affected by the decision.
Customers will still be able to visit the restaurant chain’s remaining locations throughout the Fort Worth area.
The family encouraged loyal guests to continue supporting those restaurants after the North Main Street location closes.
No Reason Given for Closure
The owners did not explain what prompted the decision to close the Stockyards restaurant.
As of the announcement, the family had not shared whether the closure was related to redevelopment, lease issues, business operations, or other factors.
