Multiple parents in Upper Gwynedd, Pennsylvania raised alarms in March after noticing injuries and disturbing behavior changes in their children. Their complaints led police to launch a formal investigation into Little Lambs Daycare — and what they found resulted in criminal charges and the facility’s permanent closure.
Who Is Accused
Daniel Patrick Riley, 47, an assistant director and toddler room teacher at the daycare, now faces serious charges including aggravated assault, four counts of endangering the welfare of children, and tampering with evidence. Riley worked at the facility owned by his own mother.
What Investigators Found
According to Upper Gwynedd Police, the alleged abuse involved multiple children and multiple incidents:
- A toddler was dragged across the floor by Riley because the child was singing
- Another child had their face grabbed and cheeks squeezed for not sitting still or being quiet
- One child suffered a fractured ankle after Riley allegedly kicked and stepped on the child’s foot
- Additional children sustained rug burns and abrasions from being pulled off the ground with excessive force
- Children were placed in timeouts lasting an unreasonable duration while Riley allegedly yelled at them excessively
Evidence Deleted
Investigators say Riley attempted to cover his actions by deleting surveillance footage from the facility showing the alleged abuse — leading to the tampering with evidence charge.
Facility Shut Down
Following its own investigation, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services revoked Little Lambs Daycare’s operating license. The facility is no longer open.
Where the Case Stands
Riley turned himself in to Montgomery County Prison and is being held on a $25,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for August 13.
