A 36-year-old Oklahoma pediatrician charged with murdering her 4-year-old daughter is now fighting for her own safety behind bars. Neha Gupta, who faces first-degree murder charges in Miami-Dade County, has filed an emergency motion asking a Florida judge to separate her from another inmate she says has repeatedly attacked and threatened to kill her.
What’s Happening Inside the Jail
According to court filings, the first alleged attack occurred on January 26, when inmate Daisy Link entered Gupta’s cell and punched her repeatedly in the face, damaging her prescription glasses and leaving facial bruises. Prosecutors charged Link in connection with that assault, and jail officials temporarily moved her to a different unit.
However, Link was returned to Gupta’s housing unit in June.
On July 17, Gupta says Link approached her locked cell door, pounded on it, and screamed, “I am going to kill you.” Days later, on July 24, Gupta alleges she was attacked again — this time by one of Link’s associates. That incident is currently under investigation by the Department of Corrections.
Who Is Daisy Link
Link is herself an accused murderer who gained attention after becoming pregnant while incarcerated without ever meeting the father in person. She gave birth to a girl in August 2024 and has allegedly assaulted multiple inmates while in custody.
How Gupta’s Murder Case Started
Gupta was arrested after authorities alleged she killed her daughter at an Airbnb near Miami, then placed the child’s body in a backyard swimming pool to make the death appear accidental.
She told investigators she woke up to find her daughter submerged in the pool and spent roughly 10 minutes attempting to rescue her before calling 911.
However, the medical examiner found no water in the child’s lungs or stomach, ruling out drowning. The autopsy also revealed injuries consistent with suffocation, leading investigators to conclude the girl was already dead before entering the pool.
Where the Case Stands
Gupta has pleaded not guilty and remains jailed without bond. Her defense attorney has asked the court to immediately order the two inmates separated, stating Gupta is “in fear” for her safety. The judge has not yet ruled on the request.
