Costa Mesa police arrested a man and his mother Tuesday after a shooting at a grocery store parking lot left one person critically injured.
Officers identified the suspects as Rodney Otis Rich, 37, and his mother, Tammie Walker, 63, both Costa Mesa residents, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.
What happened
Police responded to reports of a shooting at a Stater Bros. parking lot in the 2100 block of Newport Boulevard around 7:35 a.m.
Officers arriving at the scene found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, though police said his injury was not life-threatening.
The arrests
Detectives investigating the shooting identified Rich and Walker as suspects. Around 3 p.m., officers located and arrested the pair at an apartment complex less than a mile from the crime scene, according to the Orange County Register.
Police said the shooting does not appear to be gang-related.
No further details, including a possible motive or the victim’s identity, have been released. The Costa Mesa Police Department said the investigation is ongoing.
