Irvine Man Dies, Two Others Injured in Weekend Crash Near Twentynine Palms

TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. — A 39-year-old Irvine man died and two passengers were injured following a single-vehicle crash Friday night on State Route 62 near Twentynine Palms, the California Highway Patrol confirmed.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:55 p.m. along State Route 62 near milepost marker 73, roughly 11 miles west of State Route 177, according to CHP officials.

Investigators said Rohan Satish Karnavat was driving a 2013 Honda Accord eastbound when he made an unsafe turning maneuver. The vehicle left the roadway and overturned before coming to rest on its wheels, the CHP reported.

Karnavat was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the vehicle were transported to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment. Their conditions have not been released.

The CHP said investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. The cause remains under investigation.
