ANDERSON, Ind. — A 40-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly attacking a young child with a sharp object at a business in Anderson, according to police.
The incident took place Thursday morning, July 9, in the 1800 block of North Scatterfield Road. Officers were dispatched to the location around 9 a.m. following reports of a possible child battery case.
During the investigation, authorities determined that the suspect had approached a 6-year-old girl while she was seated inside a shopping cart. He allegedly poked her with an object that has not yet been identified, then fled the scene before officers arrived.
The young victim suffered a minor puncture wound and was treated for her injuries.
Bystanders who witnessed the incident were able to provide a description of the man’s vehicle to responding officers. Using that information, law enforcement located the vehicle shortly afterward near the intersection of Broadway and School streets.
Madison County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended the suspect at that location and handed him over to Anderson Police Department detectives for further processing.
The man has since been booked into the Madison County Jail, pending further legal proceedings.
As of now, the case remains under active investigation, and no formal charges have been filed against the suspect.
