Houston Driver Dies After Crashing Into Pole at Over 100 MPH on Westpark Drive

A driver is dead after losing control of their vehicle at more than 100 mph and crashing into a pole on Westpark Drive in Houston early Sunday morning, police say.

The Crash

The Houston Police Department received a call reporting the crash in the 10000 block of Westpark Drive, near Wilcrest Drive, just before 7 a.m. The caller told dispatchers they were unable to get the driver out of the vehicle.

When officers arrived, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Road Reopened

Westpark Drive was temporarily closed following the crash but had fully reopened by 9:30 a.m. Standing water was also observed in the area near the crash site, and city workers were spotted on scene. It remains unclear whether the crash caused a water main break. City officials have been contacted for comment.

Investigation Ongoing

The Houston Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash. No additional details about the driver have been released at this time.
