A Texas man is facing a manslaughter charge after authorities say he deliberately reversed his vehicle into a bicyclist, killing a 26-year-old woman who was a professional boxer and fire safety inspector.
Charles Eric Medina, 31, was arrested by the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office following the deadly incident that unfolded Saturday morning in the 23000 block of FM 159. Deputies were called to the scene just before 10 a.m. and discovered Hannah Rapp lying in the road. She was transported to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
According to investigators, Medina had passed two bicyclists who were riding along the road. He then allegedly stopped his vehicle, put it in reverse, and deliberately struck one of the cyclists — Rapp. Authorities are still investigating the motive, describing the incident as “isolated” while noting they have not determined whether road rage played a role.
What makes this case even more shocking is who Hannah Rapp was. Just weeks before her death, Rapp had challenged for the World Boxing Council’s featherweight championship. Originally from Indiana, she had built a life in Texas, where she worked as a fire and life safety inspector at Texas A&M University — a respected professional in two demanding fields.
The boxing world mourned her loss deeply. The WBC called her death heartbreaking, describing her as an exceptional athlete and an invaluable member of the boxing community. Her most recent opponent also remembered her as a strong, tough competitor who made a lasting impression on everyone she met.
