Rye, NY — A car reported stolen Monday in New York City was recovered Tuesday morning in Rye following a police pursuit that ended with four arrests, according to the Rye Police Department.
None of the four suspects arrested are Rye residents, police said.
According to Rye PD, when the vehicle entered Rye on Tuesday morning, police dogs, a helicopter, and several police agencies from neighboring communities assisted Rye officers in apprehending the suspects. Two men and two women were inside the vehicle, which crashed off Boston Post Road, police said.
“Thanks to the other police agencies who stepped in and helped us set up a perimeter and to our Real-Time Crime Center for always assisting us in incidents like this,” Rye PD Detective Sergeant Chris Salguero said in a statement.
A photo released by Rye police showed the vehicle being lifted from the scene, with severe damage visible to the car’s front end.
Other agencies that assisted at the scene, per Rye PD, included Westchester County Police, and police departments from Harrison, Port Chester, and Mamaroneck.
Search for Fourth Suspect
After three suspects were taken into custody, one remained at large Tuesday morning, prompting Rye PD to issue a public safety notice on social media.
“We are currently searching for an outstanding suspect after a pursuit in the area of Theall Rd/Theodore Fremd Ave, Osborn Rd, if you see anything suspicious please call us immediately,” Rye PD posted at 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to the department’s social media account. “There are numerous police officers in the area uniformed and plain clothes.”
At 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, police confirmed via a follow-up post that all suspects had been arrested and that there was no longer a threat to the community. The final suspect was apprehended near West Med Rye at 1 Theall Road, according to police.
As a precaution during the search, Rye High School briefly went into lockdown Tuesday morning, according to school officials. Students are on summer break, but a Helping Hands event scheduled at the school was delayed by an hour because of the police activity.
