Pinecrest, Florida — A FedEx freight driver is facing felony charges after authorities accused him of participating in a scheme to steal more than $31,000 worth of Apple products that were supposed to be delivered to retail stores in South Florida.
Investigators say the alleged thefts occurred over two days in late November and were uncovered following an internal investigation by FedEx that identified unusual activity during delivery routes.
The case has now resulted in criminal charges and continues as detectives search for another suspect believed to have been involved.
Investigation Began After Missing Apple Shipments
According to investigators, the alleged thefts occurred on Nov. 28 and Nov. 29, when Apple products assigned for delivery reportedly failed to reach their intended destinations.
Authorities said FedEx later received confirmation from Apple that merchandise was missing from both shipments.
The reported losses totaled approximately:
- $22,506.28 from the Nov. 28 shipment
- $8,658.20 from the Nov. 29 shipment
Combined, the missing merchandise was valued at more than $31,000.
The shortages were officially reported on Dec. 18, prompting a broader investigation into the deliveries.
Internal Review Revealed Suspicious Activity
According to the arrest report, Michael Turro-Cabrera, 43, was assigned to transport the missing shipments.
FedEx officials reportedly conducted an internal review that identified several unexplained extended stops during his delivery route.
Investigators also discovered alleged time clock manipulation that coincided with the dates the Apple products disappeared.
Authorities said Turro-Cabrera’s employment with FedEx ended on Dec. 18 after the company cited policy violations uncovered during the investigation.
Surveillance and GPS Data Linked Suspects
Detectives said surveillance footage captured a pickup truck backing up to Turro-Cabrera’s trailer during one of the unauthorized stops in Pinecrest.
According to investigators, the video appears to show merchandise being transferred from the trailer into the pickup truck.
Authorities also examined GPS records and phone data, which they say connected Turro-Cabrera with another individual allegedly involved in the operation.
Police identified the second suspect as a former FedEx employee who had previously worked for the company for eight years before being terminated.
That individual has not yet been arrested.
Investigators allege the two men worked together to steal Apple products intended for retail delivery.
Driver Arrested, Faces Multiple Felony Charges
According to authorities, Turro-Cabrera arrived at the Medley Police Department on Tuesday, where he was taken into custody.
He has been charged with:
- Grand Theft
- Organized Fraud
Authorities have not announced whether the stolen Apple products have been recovered. The investigation remains active as detectives continue searching for the second suspect.
Delivery Theft Investigations Continue
The arrest comes shortly after another case involving a delivery driver in South Florida.
Last week, authorities arrested a FedEx contractor who was accused of stealing Nike merchandise during deliveries.
While investigators have not indicated whether the two cases are connected, both incidents highlight ongoing concerns surrounding cargo theft and supply chain security involving high-value consumer products.
