A Pennsylvania father is now facing multiple criminal charges after authorities say he left his young child unattended inside a vehicle for several hours while temperatures climbed close to 90 degrees.
The incident unfolded on August 1 outside a fitness center in Falls Township, located in Bucks County. According to investigators, a bystander noticed a toddler sitting alone inside a parked car and alerted authorities, prompting officers to respond to the scene.
Police say the child, just three years old, had reportedly been left inside the vehicle for approximately three hours while the father was inside the gym. With outdoor temperatures hovering near 90 degrees that afternoon, officials noted the conditions inside a closed vehicle can escalate rapidly, posing serious risk to a young child left without supervision.
The man identified by authorities as 31-year-old Mikal Walker has since been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, along with an additional charge related to leaving a child unattended inside a vehicle, according to court records reviewed in connection with the case.
Following his arrest, Walker was able to post bail, which was set at $250,000. He is currently scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing later this month, with the date listed as August 19, court documents show.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding what prompted the extended visit to the gym or whether any prior concerns had been raised about the child’s welfare. The case remains active as it moves through the legal process.
