BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia — The brief break from rain is ending. Storms are returning to North Central West Virginia before Friday morning even gets started, and residents should be prepared before they go to sleep tonight.
What to expect Friday
The bulk of the rain and storm activity will arrive before sunrise and push through before noon.
However, isolated showers and storms cannot be ruled out into the afternoon and evening as well.
The biggest concern Friday is localized flash flooding. If heavy storms slow down or repeatedly hit the same spots, water can rise quickly in low-lying areas.
Saturday offers a breather — but not a guarantee
The good news is that Saturday has trended mostly dry.
That said, isolated showers and storms are still possible throughout the day. If you have outdoor plans — a cookout, a game, a family event — keep an umbrella within reach just in case.
Sunday and Monday bring more rounds of storms
A frontal system moving across the Great Lakes toward New England will drag scattered showers and storms back into the region both Sunday and Monday.
Sunday carries the bigger concern. Meteorologists are watching for a potential round of more widespread, heavy rain that could trigger localized flash flooding in parts of NCWV.
A brief drier stretch is coming
Once the cold front clears through on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday should bring drier conditions.
Humidity will still be noticeable, but high pressure building in behind the front will keep rain chances low for at least those two days.
