Philadelphia is about to get hit with storms, suffocating humidity and a possible heat wave

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — If you are stepping outside Wednesday, bring an umbrella — and maybe extra hairspray too.

Pop-up showers and thunderstorms are likely throughout the day across the Philadelphia region as a warm front pushes through the area. Widespread severe weather is not expected, but pockets of moderate to heavy rain are possible, so be prepared before you head out.

The bigger story, though, is what comes after.

Brace Yourself — The Heat and Humidity Are Coming

Once that warm front moves through, humidity levels will jump dramatically. Dewpoint temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-to-upper 70s for most of the remainder of the week — the kind of thick, sticky air that makes every minute outdoors feel miserable.

Thursday through the weekend will bring daily chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. It will not rain all day everywhere, but outdoor plans should have a backup.

On top of that, a heat wave may be developing. Highs in the low 90s are expected Thursday through the weekend — but with humidity this high, it will feel closer to triple digits. If you are spending time outside, stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade.
