You may have already seen the official trailer for “Revenge of the Mask 2” Over 1.2M people have. It’s been on youtube since it was posted on September 25, 2019.   That’s phenomenal for a two-minute trailer!  But, this is not an anomaly in this series.  Every episode of this Lance Kawas directed, Dylan Sides fan flick,  “Rise/Revenge of the Mask”  has garnered millions of views.

Based on the Dark Horse Comics series,  “The Mask” was created by Doug Mahnke and John Arcudi and published by Dark Horse Comics. Its artists have included Mark Badger, Chris Warner, and Keith Williams.

The original trilogy of The Mask, The Mask Returns, and The Mask Strikes Back was published as a limited series from 1991 to 1995, and has since expanded into various spin-offs and other media.

“The Mask,” according to the Dark Horse Comic series told the story of a supernatural mask that granted its wearers superpowers at the cost of their sanity, and the inevitable chaos it caused.

On October 1, 2018,  Bijou Cines in cooperation with Sides Studios posted the official full-length trailer for “Revenge of the Mask,”  on youtube.com.  Based loosely on the Dark Horse Comic series “The Mask,”. this bloody adaptation blended the story elements created by Mike Richardson with the stylistic overtones from the 1994 film version of “The Mask”.  But make no mistake about it.  This was not a light-hearted, comedic take of the 1994 movie that Jim Carey made famous.  This adaptation introduced us to a new character which we followed through this two-episode.  This new character, Alan, finds there is a thin line between hero and monster.

On Halloween of 2018,  we were taken back to the origins of the mask and upon a beach in the brisk air of an early spring day, in the breaking waves that lapped the shores, two brothers, tasked by Odin to capture Loki and contain his power, fought each other to a bitter death, creating the artifact known as The Mask.   This was a companion piece to “Revenge of the Mask.”

Written by Christina M. Tomlinson, directed by Lance Kawas, executive produced by Dylan Sides, with cinematography by Istvan Lettang, and music by Pierre Vaucher,  “Rise of the Mask” starred Bobby Laenen (as Torbjorn), Peter Herold (as Bard),, Michael Bugard (as Loki), and Linda L. Douglas (as Herthe).

This 6:43M long short-film has attained over 20M views, 132K subscribers, and 106K thumbs up, something unprecedented to this day for a Michigan short film.   Mind-blowing!

On November 30, 2018,  the full-length, “Revenge of the Mask” was posted online. In a very short time, the film went viral, its rise in numbers was meteoric.  But just as it was attaining unheard of and largely unimagined numbers, this film’s stride was broken.  Because of a challenge,  this film was pulled.  It would remain off-line until all challenges were satisfied.  But in this time, when it was again allowed to be posted once again, the numbers it had attained were lost.  It would have to start all over again.

This 35 -minute short was written by three individuals, Athena Isabel Lebessiss, Kyle Parker, and Dylan Sides,  based upon characters by Mike Richardson, and starred Michael Bugard (as Loki, the Mask),  Tim Parrish (as Alan), and Athena Isabel Lebessis (as Leslie), with the following cast in lesser roles:  Kevin R.
