This news should really come as no surprise.  Long-time resident of Lansing, Michigan, McCallum has been picking up awards for his films since the founding of his production company, Rebel Pictures in 1999.

Since 2008 he has released a string of 16 award-winning short films.   These include: Confidence Of a Tall Man (2017), Two for the Show (2016), Eskimo Brothers (2017), Wake (2017), Shotgun Wedding (2014), Take a Penny (2014), Sure Thing (2013), Small Town Fireworks (2012), Memento Mori (2012), Slow Burn (2011), Shadowpuppet (2010), Thin Veil (2010),  Overtime (2010), Under the Covers (2008), and Addiction (2008).

His feature films include: Buffalo (2015), Lucky (2011), Handlebar (2010), and Fairview St. (2010).

With the 23 films that Rebel Pictures has made they have won a string of 125 major awards, been nominated for 120 other major awards and been accepted into 272 film festivals internationally! This is quite an accomplishment for any indie filmmaker, and one for which McCallum can shout from the rooftops.

In 2012 McCallum was honored to receive the “Michigan Independent Filmmaker Of the Year Award” by the Uptown Film Festival in Detroit.

In 2015 McCallum and his Rebel Pictures team finished their fourth feature film, Buffalo, a winner of 22 awards and received 12 nominations in it’s first 38 film festivals. Working with this father, William C. McCallum, who appears in the lead role in Buffalo, they wrote the film together.   It  has played in Italy, Amsterdam, Switzerland, Singapore, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Grand Rapids, The Caribbean, Lithuania, Greece, Amsterdam, Russia, Hong Kong, Portugal, Indonesia, Italy and Australia.Working, again, with his talented father,

In 2013 and 2014, he was invited to direct a short film for the Production Workshop for the Grand Rapids Film Festival (GRFF). Both films were finished by McCallum and one of his editors and have won awards nationally. He currently serves on GRFF’s Board Of Directors and leads the committee which produced the 36-Hour Challenge.

In addition to film, Michael is also an accomplished theater performer. He took on the iconic role of “Stanley Kowalski” in Lansing Community College’s production of “A Streetcar Named Desire.”

Michael is a winner!  And this record of wins and nominations supports this.
