HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A quiet Sunday morning turned deadly outside a north Harris County trailer park after a 17-year-old girl and her 29-year-old brother were shot and killed during a confrontation with her ex-boyfriend, officials confirmed.
The shooting unfolded around 10:50 a.m. near West Canino Road and Airline Drive. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the teenage girl had just stepped outside to hand a toddler over to a family member when her ex-boyfriend, 19-year-old Angel Javier Rodriguez, showed up carrying a firearm.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the girl’s older brother rushed outside after noticing the confrontation, attempting to calm the situation before Rodriguez allegedly opened fire on both siblings. He then fled in a vehicle, leaving the scene as chaos erupted among nearby residents.
Deputies reached the location within minutes and immediately began emergency first aid, but paramedics were unable to save either victim once they arrived. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The toddler, thankfully, was not physically harmed.
Officials said the siblings were each struck by multiple gunshots. Investigators noted that several bystanders — including neighbors and other family members living in the trailer park — were nearby when the shooting occurred. One additional relative was reportedly shot at but was not hit.
A sergeant with the sheriff’s office described the aftermath as devastating for the surviving child, noting that the toddler effectively lost both caregivers in a matter of seconds — one killed, the other now facing life behind bars.
Authorities tracked down Rodriguez’s vehicle a short time later on Will Clayton Road near Wilson Road. A joint effort between Humble Police and Harris County Sheriff’s deputies led to his arrest without further incident.
Rodriguez has since been formally charged with capital murder in connection with the double killing and is currently being held at the Harris County Jail.
Investigators are urging anyone with additional information to come forward and assist with the ongoing case.
