Residents across South Florida are cleaning up after powerful afternoon storms swept through Broward and Miami-Dade Counties, bringing flooding, downed trees, and property damage to multiple neighborhoods.
Hollywood Streets Flooded
In Hollywood, standing water covered Dewey Street shortly after the rain stopped, stretching all the way to Washington Street. Drivers pushed through the flooded roads as water splashed into the air around their vehicles.
For some residents, the flooding is nothing new.
“Every time it rains or anytime we have storms or heavy hurricanes, we’re all secluded to our houses because none of the neighbors could ever go outside or drive,” said Hollywood resident Jared Liebers.
Others pointed out that even after floodwaters recede, the mess left behind remains a problem.
“We just find all this debris everywhere,” said resident Rich Digirolamo. “I’m out walking the dog and it’s like, where can I walk?”
Miami Gardens Hit by Strong Winds
In Miami Gardens, powerful winds scattered tree debris across neighborhoods, with branches littering sidewalks and front yards. Residents spent their evening dragging limbs off their properties.
The storms also caused structural damage. One Miami Gardens resident, Helene Giles, watched as the aluminum carport her father built decades ago was torn apart by the winds.
“I saw parts flying over the top of the cars, going down the street,” Giles said. “I just couldn’t believe it.”
Giles said family members are expected to come over Tuesday to help with cleanup.

No official damage estimates have been released yet. Residents in both counties are urged to avoid flooded roads and report any downed power lines or hazardous debris to local authorities.
