Son stabbed his mother to death over dropped sodas — and told police he felt nothing

EL PASO, Texas — A booking photo has been released for the man accused of stabbing his own mother to death in South-Central El Paso, as chilling details emerge about what he told police after the killing.

Juan Valles Valenzuela, 30, was arrested and charged with murder on Saturday, Aug. 1, after officers responded to a call along the 300 block of Cargill.

When they arrived, they found Eva Valles Valenzuela, 68, lifeless on the floor with multiple puncture wounds. A kitchen knife with suspected blood was found next to her body.

He Called 911 on Himself

Valenzuela did not run. He called 911 himself and told the dispatcher, “I killed my mom. Come pick me up.”

When officers arrived, he was still on the phone with dispatch. He was detained on the spot.

What Triggered the Attack

At police headquarters, Valenzuela told investigators he had been napping when his mother came home with groceries.

He got up to help her. At some point, she dropped sodas into a sink. The two got into an argument — and Valenzuela said he “got triggered.”

He then stabbed her in the neck multiple times with a kitchen knife.

“I Felt Nothing”

After the killing, Valenzuela called his friends and told them it would be the last time he would speak to them.

He later told police that he hated his mother — and that he felt nothing when he killed her.

Friends Had Feared the Worst

Investigators spoke with a close friend who said he had heard that Valenzuela might be suicidal after the incident.

The friend tried calling him repeatedly. When he finally got through, Valenzuela said, “I killed someone.”

The friend urged him not to joke like that. Valenzuela then asked, “Guess who I killed?”

The friend told police he immediately feared it was Valenzuela’s mother — because Valenzuela had told him in the past that he hated her and wanted her dead.
