LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Fiona Dominguez was doing something completely ordinary. She was standing at a bus stop, waiting for her ride, on a regular Saturday morning.
Then a truck came onto the sidewalk and hit her.
On Tuesday, the man behind the wheel — Dario Nunez Jr., 38 — pleaded guilty to DUI resulting in substantial bodily harm. The crash happened on April 25, near Sahara Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard.
A Morning That Changed Everything
Police say Nunez was driving a Ram 2500 pickup when it veered off the road, mounted the sidewalk, and slammed into the bus stop where Dominguez was waiting.
The impact sent her into the road.
Nunez did not stay. He left the scene before officers arrived. Police found him and his vehicle north of the crash — and say he showed clear signs of impairment.
Fighting for Her Life
The injuries Dominguez suffered were severe.
Her mother, Valerie Musto, said her daughter was placed in a medically induced coma to help her body recover. She described the road ahead as long and uncertain.

Nunez is scheduled to be sentenced on November 10.
