She was at work when her home caught fire — she came back to find 12 of her 13 dogs gone

HOLLYWOOD, Florida — Andrea Santos was in the middle of her shift when something made her check her phone.

What she saw on her Ring camera stopped her cold.

“I looked on my Ring camera. I’m like, ‘Oh my god, where’s that coming from?’ Then it just clicked, and I just ran out of work,” she said.

She Came Home to Smoke and Sirens

Santos raced back to her home on Rodman Street to find smoke pouring from the building and first responders already on the scene.

Of her 13 dogs, only one had made it out.

A puppy named Baby Judge was found alive — but barely. Firefighters performed CPR on the small dog right there on the scene, and it worked.

Baby Judge survived.

“They Were My Children”

The other 12 were not as fortunate.

For Santos, these were not just pets. They were part of her daily life, her routine, her home.

“They were family, they were my children. It is very devastating because they were very young. We had a routine, we had fun and smiles, and it’s just very heartbreaking right now,” she said.

What Comes Next

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Santos and her family have started an online fundraiser to help cover the costs tied to the fire and its aftermath.

No one has forgotten the image of firefighters kneeling on the ground, giving CPR to a small puppy while a home burned behind them. That one act saved the only life that could be saved that day.
