CARROLLTON, Texas — Just months after walking across the graduation stage at Hebron High School, 19-year-old Isabella Gonzales was serving her country thousands of miles from home.
On Friday, she was killed.
The Pentagon confirmed that Army Pvt. Isabella Gonzales of Carrollton was killed in action during an Iranian strike on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. She was assigned to an air defense artillery unit based in Ansbach, Germany, supporting Operation Inherent Resolve — the U.S. mission against the Islamic State.
She was 19 years old.
A Community Left Heartbroken
Lewisville ISD, which oversees Hebron High School, confirmed Gonzales graduated in spring 2025 — just months before her death.
“Not long ago, Isabella walked the halls of Hebron as a student, a classmate and a friend,” the district said. “Her decision to serve after graduation speaks volumes of her character.”
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called her loss a tragedy for the entire state.
“She was just 19 years old. Her courage and sacrifice represent the very best of Texas,” Abbott said, adding that the state is “forever indebted” to her.
The City of Carrollton called her a national hero and extended condolences to her family and everyone who served alongside her.
What Comes Next
Gonzales and Army 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Hawaii — also killed in the attack — mark the 15th and 16th U.S. service members lost since the conflict with Iran began on Feb. 28.
President Trump vowed retaliation. U.S. forces launched new airstrikes against Iran hours after the attack.
A dignified transfer at Dover Air Force Base is planned, with President Trump expected to attend.
