Pregnant Teen’s Baby Dies Days After Shooting, Suspect Now Faces Double Murder Charges

San Diego, California — Prosecutors have filed a second murder charge against a man accused of fatally shooting his pregnant teenage ex-girlfriend after the couple’s newborn child died from injuries linked to the attack.

The case centers on the death of 17-year-old Jariah Edwards, who was allegedly shot while visiting San Diego with family members. Authorities now say the shooting claimed not only Edwards’ life but also the life of her child, who was delivered prematurely following the incident.

The additional charge significantly raises the stakes in a case that prosecutors have described as a carefully planned attack.

Second Murder Charge Added After Infant’s Death

On Tuesday, Trevon Williams, 21, pleaded not guilty to an updated criminal complaint charging him with two counts of murder.

According to San Diego police, Edwards’ child was delivered through an emergency cesarean section at approximately 32 weeks gestation after the shooting.

The infant, identified in court documents as Riyary E., reportedly suffered a severe hypoxic brain injury and died at a hospital roughly one week later.

Prosecutors previously confirmed that Williams was the child’s father. The amended charges now allege that both Edwards and her child were victims of the fatal incident.

Prosecutors Detail Alleged Plan

Authorities allege Williams traveled from Arizona to San Diego after learning Edwards was staying in the area with relatives.

According to prosecutors, he arranged transportation through a rideshare service and traveled to the Airbnb where Edwards was staying.

Deputy District Attorney Alexandra Lorens alleged that Williams intentionally had the driver drop him off several houses away from the property before positioning himself nearby.

Prosecutors claim he then used flower and vase deliveries to lure Edwards outside. Once she exited the residence, Williams allegedly shot her in the head before fleeing the area.

Investigators contend the shooting was not random but rather the result of a deliberate plan.

Suspect Allegedly Tried to Evade Capture

Following the shooting, prosecutors allege Williams attempted to avoid detection by changing his clothes and hiding in a nearby canyon.

Authorities also claim he made an audio recording after the incident in which he discussed the shooting.

According to prosecutors, the recording allegedly included the statement:

“I shot this (expletive) in the face. On God, I shot this (expletive) dead.”

Law enforcement officers arrested Williams less than two hours after the shooting.

He has remained in custody since his arrest and is currently being held without bail.

Additional Charges and Special Circumstances

In addition to the two murder charges, Williams faces a felony count related to the alleged possession of a machine gun.

Prosecutors have also filed special circumstance allegations, including lying in wait and multiple murders. Those allegations could significantly increase potential penalties if Williams is convicted.

According to court records, the defendant could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or potentially the death penalty if prosecutors ultimately decide to pursue capital punishment.

Case Moves Forward Through Court System

The case is expected to continue through the San Diego County court system as prosecutors and defense attorneys prepare for future hearings.

At this stage, the allegations remain accusations, and Williams is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Meanwhile, the deaths of Edwards and her child have left family members mourning a devastating loss while the legal process moves forward.

The case has also drawn attention because of the allegations that the attack was planned in advance and targeted a pregnant teenager who was visiting the area with loved ones.
