That question sparked an informal survey of New Jersey residents, gathered through casual conversations and social media responses, to settle once and for all which town deserves the title of the state’s pizza capital.
The person behind the survey admitted to having a personal favorite going in. Having spent years living in Point Pleasant, they leaned toward two local spots that shaped their own idea of what a perfect slice should taste like. But personal bias aside, the goal was to hear from as many New Jersey natives as possible before drawing any conclusions.
After collecting and tallying responses from across the state, a clear pattern emerged. The towns that came out on top weren’t concentrated in one region — they stretched from the shore to central and northern New Jersey, showing that great pizza in the state isn’t limited to any single area.
When the votes were counted, Elizabeth came out on top as the town residents most associate with exceptional pizza, followed closely by Seaside Heights in second place. Rounding out the top three was Trenton, a city with its own long-standing reputation for classic New Jersey-style pies.
The results suggest that New Jersey’s pizza identity is spread across the entire state rather than tied to one famous strip or neighborhood. Whether someone prefers a boardwalk slice, a downtown classic, or a family-run shop passed down for generations, the survey reinforced one thing: New Jersey residents take their pizza seriously, and they aren’t shy about defending their favorite spot.
