A Nevada woman accused of abandoning her infant son in a dumpster hours after giving birth has entered a no-contest plea to attempted murder, bringing her closer to a lengthy prison sentence.
Taylour Sierra Dickinson, 29, appeared in a Washoe County courtroom this week to change her plea as part of a deal with prosecutors. In exchange, a separate charge of child abuse, neglect and endangerment was dropped.
Court records show the incident occurred in the early hours of July 5, 2025, when Dickinson gave birth inside her apartment bathroom at a Sun Valley residential complex. She later told investigators she had no idea she was pregnant until that moment. According to the criminal complaint, she wrapped the newborn and placed him inside a garbage bag before carrying him to a nearby dumpster.
The baby was discovered only because a nearby resident heard faint crying coming from inside the trash bin and climbed in to pull him out before emergency crews arrived. Local law enforcement officials later credited that bystander with saving the child’s life.
Investigators say Dickinson admitted she believed leaving the newborn in the dumpster was her “best option” at the time, telling officers she had no interest in raising another child and that her household was already struggling financially. She is the mother of two other children, ages 4 and 10.
The infant was rushed to a regional hospital, where doctors confirmed he was in stable, healthy condition.
Prosecutors also revealed during earlier hearings that Dickinson had described a similar incident from 2023, in which she said she left another infant in a dumpster following what she called a miscarriage. That child did not survive, though no charges were filed at the time due to insufficient evidence.
By pleading no contest, Dickinson does not formally admit guilt but acknowledges prosecutors likely had enough evidence to convict her at trial. She remains held in custody, with sentencing scheduled for October 7.
