CONYERS, Ga. — A motorcyclist accused of weaving through traffic at dangerous speeds ended up airlifted to a hospital Monday after allegedly slamming into a Georgia State Patrol vehicle during a chase that stretched across two counties, authorities say.
What We Know
According to the Georgia State Patrol, a trooper assigned to the Crime Suppression Unit spotted the rider cutting between vehicles at a reckless speed around 3:46 p.m. Monday and attempted a traffic stop. Instead of pulling over, the rider took off, triggering a pursuit that carried from DeKalb County into neighboring Rockdale County.
Somewhere along the chase, the motorcycle allegedly clipped the rear passenger side of the trooper’s patrol car. The collision sent the rider veering out of control, and he crashed directly into a roadside guardrail near Sigman Road along I-20, just after 4:30 p.m.
Troopers on scene began administering first aid immediately, and the rider was airlifted to a nearby hospital. He is currently listed in stable condition.
What We Don’t Know
Georgia State Patrol has not yet released the rider’s identity, nor confirmed whether he will face criminal charges for evading police or striking a law enforcement vehicle. It’s also unclear whether any other drivers or vehicles were caught up in the chase before the crash occurred.
