Missing Teen Vanishes Outside Chicago Theater in 2022 — Found Alive 730 Miles Away, Police Say

A years-long missing persons case has come to an unexpected end after a young woman who disappeared outside a Chicago movie theater in 2022 was located alive in Virginia, according to law enforcement records.

The woman, now 19, was reported missing after traveling from Milwaukee to Chicago to meet someone she had been in contact with online for an extended period. Police say she vanished the same day, and was not seen again for nearly four years.

Investigators eventually traced her location to a residence in Blacksburg, Virginia, roughly 730 miles from where she was last seen. According to court filings, she had allegedly been held against her will at the property since 2022.

A 37-year-old man has since been charged with kidnapping and child abduction in connection with the case. He remains in custody in Virginia and has not yet appeared before a Wisconsin court.

Court documents allege the victim endured prolonged abuse during the years she was reported missing. Records also indicate that electronic devices linked to the case, including phones allegedly used to communicate with her, were discarded shortly after her disappearance.

Family members had previously raised concerns about the pace of the original missing-persons investigation, saying they relied on neighborhood surveillance footage to piece together her final movements before she went missing.

A law enforcement spokesperson said there is currently no indication the case is connected to any broader trafficking network, though officials confirmed the criminal charges filed reflect kidnapping, abduction, and abuse allegations.

The case remains under investigation, and additional charges have not been ruled out as authorities continue reviewing the timeline of events.
