A Miami Gardens man was hospitalized in stable condition after his father allegedly shot him during a heated argument at their home on Wednesday evening, according to Miami Gardens police.
Officers say the shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. in a residential neighborhood near an elementary school. According to police, an argument between the father and son escalated to the point where the father allegedly fired a gun through a glass door inside the home, striking his son.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover, police confirmed. A second person who was inside the home at the time also sustained minor injuries during the incident, according to authorities.
Neighbor Karen Mike told CBS News Miami she and her daughter heard a rapid series of gunshots. She said her daughter was preparing to leave for a night class when they heard several pops in quick succession and paused to check whether it was safe to step outside before letting her daughter go.
Several residents in the area told reporters they did not see anyone flee the scene following the gunfire. A number of neighbors also said Miami Gardens police had already responded to the same home days earlier for an unrelated disturbance call.
As of Thursday night, police had not made an arrest, and the father remained at large. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Miami Gardens Police Department.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
