An Indiana mother is behind bars, charged with murder after her infant son died in what police say was a preventable tragedy — one she allegedly saw coming for months.
Chantel Cunningham, 24, of Shipshewana, Indiana, has been charged with murder and neglect of a dependent resulting in death following the April 6 death of her 5-month-old son, Greyson.
What Happened That Day
According to court documents, Cunningham was home alone with Greyson when she suffered a seizure and fell. She told police she dropped the infant and then collapsed on top of him. The baby sustained multiple skull fractures and did not survive.
The Detail That Changed Everything
What investigators uncovered during the months-long investigation made the case take a darker turn.
Cunningham allegedly admitted to police that she had stopped taking her seizure medication — the medication that was specifically keeping her seizures under control — four months before Greyson’s death. She reportedly knew that without the medication, she would have seizures. She also knew those seizures caused her to fall.
