HOUSTON — A 23-year-old food delivery worker is being praised for pushing through an ordeal that left her injured after a man fleeing police slammed his vehicle into her mid-delivery, according to local authorities.
Miracle Herron had just parked and stepped out of her car to hand off a food order when a gray sedan barreled into her without warning. The driver of that sedan, later identified by police as Torrence Whitaker, immediately abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, according to officials.
Footage captured by a nearby home’s security camera showed the entire sequence — Herron exiting her vehicle, the impact, and Whitaker sprinting away moments before patrol units arrived. Police say Whitaker had been actively evading a chase when the collision occurred.
Despite being knocked down by the crash, Herron got back up, retrieved the customer’s order, and carried it to the front porch before addressing her injuries, per accounts from those who witnessed the scene.
She did not suffer any broken bones but is continuing to recover from pain and soreness caused by the impact, officials confirmed.
Whitaker did not get far. Surveillance footage tracked him cutting through multiple backyards before he was ultimately located and apprehended with the assistance of a police K-9 unit. He now faces several charges in connection with the incident.
Herron has since indicated she does not plan to continue working as a delivery driver following the crash.
A neighbor who witnessed and recorded the incident said she believes Herron deserves recognition from the delivery platform for completing the job despite her injuries, calling her dedication remarkable under the circumstances.
