Oldham County, Kentucky — A Kentucky man will spend the next four decades behind bars after pleading guilty in a high-speed police chase that ended in a devastating crash, killing a 10-year-old boy who was looking forward to celebrating his upcoming birthday.
The fatal collision happened on September 16, 2023, when authorities say 26-year-old Tymetrius Walter attempted to flee from a Kentucky State Police trooper during a traffic stop, leading officers on a dangerous pursuit before crashing into another vehicle.
Police Say Driver Refused to Stop During Traffic Stop
According to the Kentucky State Police, the incident began at approximately 3:30 p.m. when a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle traveling south on Interstate 71 in Oldham County, just north of Louisville.
Instead of pulling over, investigators said Walter continued driving at a high rate of speed, prompting the trooper to pursue the vehicle.
During the chase, authorities learned the vehicle Walter was driving had been reported stolen, adding to the seriousness of the situation.
The pursuit continued until Walter exited the interstate, where investigators say the fleeing vehicle entered an intersection and collided with a white GMC SUV.
10-Year-Old Boy Killed in Violent Collision
Police said the SUV was being driven by Jake Luxemburger’s grandmother when it was struck.
The impact proved fatal for 10-year-old Jake Luxemburger, who was riding inside the vehicle.
His grandmother survived the crash and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
Walter was taken into custody following the collision and later faced multiple felony charges connected to the crash.
Defendant Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison
This week, Walter was sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to several charges.
The convictions include vehicular homicide while under the influence, wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police, and assault.
When the case was first filed, authorities had also charged Walter with murder, assault, and additional offenses related to the deadly crash.
The sentence brings the criminal case to a close, nearly two years after the tragic incident.

“The morning he died, he was so excited because he was going shopping for his birthday.”
Jake was just days away from turning 11 years old.
His obituary described him as a child who loved spending time outdoors with friends, riding bikes, swimming, fishing and playing Fortnite. He was also passionate about baseball and enjoyed playing with friends and younger family members whenever he had the chance.
The heartbreaking case serves as another reminder of the devastating consequences that can result when drivers attempt to flee law enforcement, putting innocent lives at risk.
