A 24-year-old Florida man is facing charges after allegedly stabbing his 12-year-old cousin over a gaming console dispute. Andrew Zargazeta has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon following the incident in Sunrise, Florida.
What Happened
Officers responded to a home on Vista Isles Drive after receiving a call about a stabbing. When police arrived, they found the 12-year-old suffering from a stab wound to the hip. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where doctors determined his injuries were non-life-threatening.
How It Unfolded
According to the arrest affidavit, the boy confronted Zargazeta for using his gaming console without permission. The argument quickly escalated. The victim’s great-grandmother stepped between the two to calm things down and did not see either holding a knife at that point.
After she separated them, the boy walked outside. The great-grandmother followed him — and that’s when he revealed he had been stabbed.
The Stabbing
The victim told police that during the argument, Zargazeta grabbed a knife from the kitchen knife block. After the great-grandmother intervened, Zargazeta briefly put the knife back. However, when the boy walked away to retrieve his gaming system, Zargazeta grabbed the knife again and immediately stabbed him in the right hip.
Officers later recovered the knife behind the television.
Where the Case Stands
Zargazeta was arrested and booked into Broward County Jail on a $20,000 bond. He remained in custody as of Monday. No future court date has been listed at this time.
