Florida man attacked sleeping sister with a machete — her 1-year-old baby was right next to her

MARGATE, Florida — A woman was sleeping in her bed with her 1-year-old daughter when her own brother allegedly attacked her with a machete.

When police arrived at the home, they could hear the woman screaming from outside. She ran out covered in blood, telling officers someone was trying to kill her.

That someone, police say, was Ruben Altidor, 36 — her brother.

What Police Found Inside

The scene inside the home was alarming.

Officers saw a large amount of blood in the bedroom, with a trail running down the hallway and out of the house.

A machete sheath was found in the kitchen. The weapon itself was discovered under a bed in another bedroom.

The Extent of Her Injuries

The victim’s injuries were severe.

She had a 10-inch gash on her right thigh that reached down to the bone, several missing fingers, and a 4-inch laceration on the back of her right hand.

On the way to the hospital, she told police that Altidor stabbed her multiple times — and at one point looked at her and asked, “Oh my God, why aren’t you dead yet?”

The Baby Was in the Bed

The woman’s 1-year-old daughter was asleep beside her during the entire attack.

The child was not physically harmed.

Charges and Jail Status

Altidor was arrested at the scene and is now being held without bail at the Broward County Main Jail.

He has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated child abuse. He also faces a probation violation tied to a separate aggravated battery case.

This case is a reminder that danger does not always come from strangers. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments below.
