Florida Couple Accused in Baby’s Death Told Relatives It Was “Just a Prank,” Sheriff Says

A young couple from Florida who allegedly vanished after their newborn went missing have finally been tracked down hundreds of miles away in North Carolina, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Leon Alejandro Jr., 21, and Samantha Angeline Feliz, 20, both residents of Hollywood, Florida, are now facing a long list of charges, including aggravated manslaughter of a child, tampering with evidence, and failing to report a child’s death to medical authorities. The charges stem from a Broward County warrant, and the pair are currently being held without bond in North Carolina while they await extradition back to Florida.

Investigators say the case has been anything but straightforward. According to officials, Feliz is believed to have given birth sometime between early December 2024 and early January 2025 — but not in a hospital. Authorities allege the pregnancy and birth were deliberately kept hidden from family members.

What happened next is where the story turns disturbing. Officials say relatives did briefly see the couple with an infant during the baby’s first few weeks of life. After that, the child was never seen again. When questioned, both Alejandro and Feliz reportedly denied the baby even existed, telling family it had all been “a prank.”

Despite there being no birth certificate or medical paperwork to confirm the child’s existence, investigators moved forward with charges, working under the belief that the infant had been born and later died under unclear circumstances.

The break in the case came when the U.S. Marshals Service coordinated with North Carolina authorities, who traced the couple to a relative’s property in Rockingham. That’s where they were finally taken into custody.

Officials have not yet released details on how the baby died or the child’s exact age at the time.

“This is a prime example of agencies nationwide collaborating to uphold justice,” a local sheriff said following the arrest.
