CONCORD, North Carolina — Residents across Cabarrus and Union counties are facing a flooding threat overnight after heavy rain moved through the area and more is still on the way.
A Flood Advisory has been issued covering Concord, Midland, Fairview, and Unionville, with the advisory set to remain in effect until 12:45 AM on August 5, 2026.
Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have already fallen across the affected areas. Forecasters say an additional inch is still possible before the system clears, pushing some locations toward a storm total of nearly 3 inches.
Heaviest Rain Targeting Midland and Unionville
Radar is showing the most intense rainfall tracking directly through Concord and moving south through Midland, Fairview, and Unionville.
That rainfall band is what concerns forecasters most. When heavy rain falls on ground that is already saturated, water has nowhere to go — and roads and low-lying areas become vulnerable quickly.
Standing water and localized flooding are expected to continue developing through the overnight hours.
Communities Near the Edge Should Stay Alert
Residents in Harrisburg, Mint Hill, Indian Trail, and Monroe sit near the outer edges of the advisory area.
Even communities just outside the warning polygon can be affected if the rain band shifts slightly as the storm continues moving through the region. Staying weather aware is important regardless of whether your address falls inside the advisory boundary.
What Residents Should Do Right Now
Do not drive through flooded roadways under any circumstances. Even water that appears shallow can be deep enough to sweep a vehicle off the road.
Stay weather aware and monitor local alerts until the advisory expires at 12:45 AM.
