Fitness Influencer Wes Watson Pleads Guilty After Allegedly Beating Man With Weightlifting Belt at Miami Gym

Miami-Dade County, Florida — Social media fitness influencer Wes Watson has pleaded guilty to aggravated battery in connection with a violent confrontation that took place inside a Miami-Dade County gym late last year, bringing a high-profile criminal case one step closer to sentencing.

The 42-year-old appeared in court Thursday and entered the guilty plea as part of an agreement with prosecutors over the December incident at Elevation Fitness. The case drew significant attention due to Watson’s large online following and the violent nature of the altercation.

Surveillance Video Became Key Evidence in the Case

According to arrest records, the confrontation occurred while Watson was working out at Elevation Fitness.

Watson reportedly told responding officers that the alleged victim approached him inside the gym and said he wanted to fight.

However, investigators said surveillance footage from inside the facility captured the altercation and showed Watson repeatedly beating the victim with his weightlifting belt during the incident.

The video became a central piece of evidence as prosecutors moved forward with the aggravated battery case.

Plea Agreement Calls for Prison Time and Probation

As part of the negotiated plea agreement, prosecutors recommended that Watson receive 21 months in prison, including credit for time already served, followed by seven years of probation.

The agreement also requires Watson to undergo mental health treatment after his release.

His sentencing hearing has been scheduled for July 27, when a judge is expected to formally consider the recommended punishment.

Defense Says Victim Sought Out the Confrontation

During Thursday’s hearing, Watson’s attorney argued that the events leading up to the fight were far from ordinary.

Defense attorney Eric Clayman claimed the alleged victim intentionally traveled to confront Watson because of his online presence and popularity.

“There’s been a lot that’s been argued in this case about stand your ground,” defense attorney Eric Clayman said. “What’s unique is you have an alleged victim that sought somebody out because of his presence online. This guy bought a plane ticket, came through New Jersey, showed up at the gym for the sole purpose of confronting Mr. Watson. That turned into something else.”

While the defense referenced issues related to self-defense, Watson ultimately chose to resolve the case by pleading guilty.

Watson Also Facing Separate Criminal Cases

The Miami-Dade case is not the only legal challenge facing the fitness influencer.

Watson, a convicted felon, is also facing multiple unrelated criminal charges in Broward County, including allegations of felony battery, aggravated assault, witness tampering, and domestic violence-related offenses involving his girlfriend.

Those cases remain separate from the Miami-Dade prosecution and are still pending.

With Watson’s guilty plea now entered, attention will shift to the upcoming sentencing hearing, where the court will determine whether to accept the negotiated recommendation. The outcome could determine how much additional time the influencer spends behind bars before beginning probation and court-ordered treatment.
