New York City, New York — A late-night jet ski collision near Randall’s Island turned deadly after a 26-year-old woman suffered fatal injuries when two personal watercraft crashed and threw all four riders into the water.
Authorities say the incident occurred Saturday night on a waterway near New York City, prompting an emergency response from police and rescue personnel.
The tragedy has since led to criminal charges against one of the operators as investigators continue working to determine exactly what caused the collision.
Four People Thrown Into Water After Collision
According to the New York Police Department, emergency crews responded to reports of a jet ski crash at approximately 10 p.m. on June 20.
A preliminary investigation found that one jet ski was carrying a 27-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, while a second jet ski was occupied by a 26-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman.
Authorities said the two watercraft collided, causing all four individuals to be ejected into the water.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and began rescue efforts. The 26-year-old woman suffered severe injuries during the crash and required immediate medical attention.
Woman Pronounced Dead After Rescue Efforts
Officials said the injured woman was transported by jet ski to an NYPD Harbor Unit dock near Randall’s Island.
From there, emergency medical personnel rushed her to a hospital in Harlem for treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts, she was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have not publicly released her identity as officials continue notifying family members. The conditions of the three other individuals involved in the collision were not immediately disclosed.
Arrest Made Following Investigation
As investigators reviewed evidence surrounding the incident, authorities moved quickly to make an arrest. Police said Yeisson Reyes-Rodriguez, 27, of Passaic, New Jersey, was taken into custody the following day.
He has been charged with:
- Manslaughter
- Vehicular Manslaughter

Suspect Being Held on Bail
According to jail records, Reyes-Rodriguez is currently being held at the Eric M. Taylor Center on Rikers Island. Authorities set bail at $25,000. Court records indicate his next scheduled court appearance is set for June 26.
