Boston police are investigating the discovery of a dead body found Saturday afternoon at a Mattapan property owned by Conan Harris — the husband of Massachusetts Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley.
Officers were called to a residence on Malta Street at 1:52 p.m. after receiving a report to investigate a person. Upon arrival, they found an individual deceased at the scene. The Boston Police Department’s homicide unit has taken over the investigation.
A police cruiser remained outside the home Saturday evening as officers sealed off the area with red crime scene tape. As of Sunday, authorities said they have no additional information to release regarding the circumstances of the death.
Property records from the city of Boston confirm that Conan Harris is listed as the owner of the Malta Street home, which carries an assessed value of $919,000. The two-story, seven-bedroom house — built in 1910 — is currently listed for sale at an asking price of $1.15 million.
Pressley and Harris do not reside at the property. It is a rental home that was on the market at the time of the discovery.
A spokesperson for Congresswoman Pressley released a brief statement Saturday night.
“The Congresswoman extends her deepest condolences to the impacted family,” the statement read.
No information about the identity of the deceased has been released. Police have not announced any arrests or named any suspects in connection with the case.
Pressley, a Democrat representing Massachusetts’s 7th Congressional District, was first elected to Congress in 2018 after defeating longtime incumbent Rep. Michael Capuano in a primary race.
Investigators have not disclosed the cause or manner of death. The homicide unit’s involvement indicates authorities are treating the circumstances of the death as suspicious.
