LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Mississippi – A woman aged 19 years is dead, and another woman was sent to the hospital following an accident that led to a single-car crash in Lafayette County on Friday, as per the reports from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident happened at about 4:07 where it took place on County Road 103 before County Road 104. According to the reports, the deputies who arrived at the scene found the car crushed on the east side of the road after the crash took place.
The deputies managed to rescue the two women from the car just before the vehicle caught fire.
Firemen from the Lafayette County Fire Department and the Baptist EMS reached the place soon after that and began treating ladies.
The driver of the vehicle who was identified as Chloe Johnson, 19 years old from Abbeville, was declared dead on the scene. The passenger was also 19 years old and taken to Regional One Health.
Authorities report that the crash appears to involve only one vehicle, and they currently do not suspect any foul play. The specifics regarding the cause of the crash are still being established.
Sheriff East expressed his sincere feelings after the crash, mentioning the sorrow in the community.
Sheriff East said the community is in mourning over a young woman full of hopes for the future, and he expressed his condolences to her family and friends. He urged residents to remember the grieving family in their thoughts, give them some space to cope with their loss, and not forget about driving carefully, taking care of each other.
While Lafayette County is grieving, police officers continue their investigation of the events that have led to the crash.
