ACTON, Massachusetts — A father called police because he could not reach anyone at home. What officers found when they arrived would devastate an entire community.
Two people were dead inside a quiet house in Acton — a mother and her teenage son. And the family’s other son, 17-year-old Arjun Aravind, was nowhere to be found.
What Investigators Found
Sudha Venkatesan, 45, was found in the finished basement of the home. Her 14-year-old son, Siddharth Aravind, was found on the first floor.
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office confirmed both victims showed signs of obvious trauma. The exact causes of death are still being determined by the state medical examiner.
Arjun had fled the scene in his mother’s car — a green 2014 Honda Accord with Massachusetts plates.
The ChatGPT Connection
What made this case even more alarming was what investigators discovered about Arjun’s recent behavior.
According to the district attorney’s office, Arjun had been using the internet and ChatGPT to search for what were described as “theoretical ideas or fantasy stories regarding the killing of his family.”
These searches were made in the weeks leading up to the incident.
The revelation has raised urgent questions about how AI tools can be misused — and whether warning signs like these can be caught before tragedy strikes.
Arrest and Charges
Law enforcement issued a BOLO for the missing vehicle overnight. The car was located in nearby Wayland with Arjun inside.
He was taken into custody without further incident, and authorities confirmed there was no ongoing risk to public safety.
Arjun is expected to face arraignment on two murder charges. He was initially brought before Lowell Juvenile Court on vehicle-related charges before the murder case moved to Concord District Court.
A Community Left Heartbroken
Acton Public Schools Superintendent Peter Light addressed the tragedy in a statement, calling it “a horrific and tragic situation on many levels.”
Counselors were placed in schools to support students and staff processing the loss.
“Our hearts go out to all of those involved,” Light said.
The district attorney acknowledged that even investigators were struggling to make sense of what happened.
“People are trying to struggle to come to grips with what happened up there,” said the DA.
For a community known for its safety and tight-knit neighborhoods, the case has left residents searching for answers that may take a long time to find.
