A 29-year-old Kentucky woman is facing homicide charges after authorities say she was driving over 100 mph with three young children in her car when she slammed head-on into a pickup truck, killing the driver.
Mary May was behind the wheel of a red 2012 Volvo S60 on US-421 in Trimble County, just northeast of Louisville, on the morning of June 16. Police say she crossed the center line at high speed and collided with a black 1987 Ford Ranger being driven by 39-year-old David Logan Jr.
Logan was pronounced dead at the scene. May was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries, along with the three children in her car — a 5-year-old and two 4-year-olds. All three kids suffered severe trauma, including a concussion with brain swelling, a brain bleed with a broken bone, and multiple spinal fractures. May and two of the children have since been released from the hospital.
May was arrested weeks after the crash and appeared in court this week in a wheelchair, still recovering from her own injuries. Her attorney claimed she lost control after one of the children began unbuckling their seatbelt mid-drive. Investigators, however, say evidence points elsewhere — they allege May was attempting to overtake three vehicles ahead of her when the crash occurred.
She now faces charges of reckless homicide, reckless driving, first-degree wanton endangerment, and first-degree assault. Officials have not yet confirmed whether she was impaired at the time, but confirmed she was traveling well over the speed limit.
Logan is being remembered by loved ones as a devoted friend and creative spirit — a DJ and graphic designer known for his warmth, humor, and dedication to the people around him. Those close to him say his energy and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone he met, and that his loss has left a deep void in the community he was part of.
The case remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police.
