A toddler’s death in Mercer County, Pennsylvania has been officially classified as a homicide after investigators say cocaine toxicity was found in his system, leading to criminal charges against two adults who were caring for him.
Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that Felicesha Hardman, 32, and Wade Vincent Daniels, 35, are now facing multiple charges, including homicide and involuntary manslaughter, in connection with the child’s death. Both suspects were seriously injured in an unrelated car crash on Orangeville Road in West Salem Township just a day after the boy died, and were airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Daniels was later taken into custody by the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office on an unrelated outstanding warrant, while Hardman reportedly remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
The case began on the morning of June 27, when emergency crews responded to a home on Columbia Avenue in Greenville after receiving a call about a 3-year-old boy who was unresponsive and not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The child’s identity has not been made public.
A forensic autopsy conducted through the Mercer County Coroner’s Office determined that the boy died from cocaine toxicity, and the manner of death was formally ruled a homicide.
Investigators say a lengthy probe revealed that Hardman and Daniels had been buying, using, and distributing drugs out of the same residence where the toddler lived. According to authorities, the pair had gone out to purchase narcotics the day before the boy’s death and later admitted the drugs went missing inside the home while the child was in their care.
A search of the property uncovered what officials described as extensive evidence of ongoing drug use and distribution, while a review of electronic devices further confirmed a pattern of buying, using, and selling controlled substances.
Both suspects are expected to be extradited back to Mercer County to face arraignment. Authorities say the investigation remains active.
