A beloved tiki bar in Sebastian, Florida has earned national attention. The Sandbar Beach Club at Capt Hirams Resort was named one of the 38 best bars to visit in the United States for 2026 by USA TODAY, in a list released this past July.
What Makes It Special
Sitting along the shores of the Indian River Lagoon, the Sandbar offers guests sand under their feet, reggae music in the air, and sweeping waterfront views. Food writers from across the country nominated bars they would return to again and again — and the Sandbar made the cut.
From a Boat Ramp to a Resort
Capt Hirams Resort has deep roots in Sebastian. It started in 1987 as a small raw bar on a 28-seat boat ramp. Today, it has grown into one of the city’s largest private employers, now home to a full inn, marina, museum, stage, and multiple restaurants alongside the Sandbar.
The Man Behind the Name
The resort was founded by Thomas Hiram Collins, a Maryland native who fell in love with the Sebastian and Vero Beach area. He named it after his uncle Hiram, who died on Omaha Beach during the D-Day landings in World War II. Collins passed away in February 2018. His son Will has led the resort since.
What to Expect When You Visit
The outdoor tiki bar serves specialty cocktails, beer, wine, fresh seafood, and more. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. with $3 drinks on house wines, domestic beers, and well drinks.
