Scarsdale Man, 26, Allegedly Stabbed and Beat Disability Advocate Mother to Death — First Homicide in Wealthy NY Suburb in 10 Years

A 26-year-old man in Scarsdale, New York, has been arrested after allegedly killing his mother inside their multi-million dollar home, in what officials say is the first homicide in the affluent suburb in ten years.

Chester Green was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his mother, 71-year-old Marian Green, according to the Westchester County District Attorney’s office. The two reportedly lived together in the Fox Meadow section of Scarsdale, in a home valued at nearly $2.5 million.

Authorities allege that sometime between Sunday and Tuesday, Chester attacked his mother using both a sharp object and a blunt instrument, resulting in her death. Officials have not released a motive for the killing.

Police discovered Chester standing outside the family’s Butler Road residence before locating Marian’s body inside the home. He was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation following the incident.

Marian Green was known locally for her advocacy work on behalf of people with disabilities and special needs children, having served as chair of the village’s council focused on disability access issues.

Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace addressed the case in a statement, saying she was shocked by the nature of the killing and noting that the family connection between the victim and the accused made the situation even more troubling. She added that her office intends to pursue justice for the victim through prosecution.

Scarsdale has repeatedly ranked among the wealthiest communities in the United States, with residents reporting average annual incomes exceeding $600,000. Violent crime, and homicide in particular, is rare in the town — officials note this marks only the second such case in the community in roughly a decade.

Chester Green appeared in court virtually and was ordered held without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for early August.
